Lieutenant David John Richard Ker, Coldstream Guards, was awarded the Military Cross. At Wadi Bout Remli on the night of March 16th-17th, 1943, Lieutenant Ker was in command of a troop of anti-tank guns which was attached to a rifle company. The company came under very heavy fire and became split up. Lieutenant Ker immediately rallied as many men as possible and, urging them on by voice, led an attack on a strong enemy position, in the fact of very heavy mortar and machine-gun fire. He showed a fine power of leadership, and his superb courage and disregard of his own safety were an inspiration to the whole company. Lieutenant Ker was born in Eire. http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/documentsonline/details-result.asp?Edoc_Id=7657059&queryType=1&resultcount=1 Name Ker, David John Richard Rank: Lieutenant Service No: 156047 Regiment: 3 Battalion Coldstream Guards Theatre of Combat or Operation: Middle East (Egypt and Libya) Award: Military Cross Date of Announcement in London Gazette: 22 July 1943 Date 1943 Catalogue reference WO 373/25 London Gazette: 15 November 1940 http://www.london-gazette.co.uk/issues/34995/supplements/6621 20 July 1943 http://www.london-gazette.co.uk/issues/36102/pages/3314 See this thread for ref: http://www.ww2talk.com/forum/research-material/19413-volunteers-eire-who-have-won-distinctions.html#post195852 :irishflag[1]:
