This Bio was sent to me by Graeme Clarke.

Charles was born in Walsall on Wednesday 8 July 1914, the son of Charles Oliver Joint and Martha (nee Sanbrook) Bullock of 133,
Farringdon Street, Walsall, Charles’s father being a plater for the London and North Western Railway Permanent Way.

Charles was married to Annie Adams at Walsall in 1936 and resided with her at 13, Queen Mary Street, Palfrey. There were two sons by the marriage, Charles and John, the oldest being three years at the time of his death.

As a boy Charles attended St. Peter’s Church of England School and was then, for 13 years, a member of the Walsall Parks Department staff.

Charles enlisted in the Army at Lichfield on Thursday 27 June 1940. A non-swimmer, he drowned on an exercise at Llandeilo,
Carmarthenshire. Part of the exercise entailed the crossing of a river during which Charles, a non swimmer, was swept downstream and drowned.

Charles is buried in Ryecroft Cemetery, Walsall in Section 40. Grave 5. He was 28 years of age he is commemorated on the Walsall roll of honour and also on the Palfrey Working Men’s Club War Memorial.

He is shown on the Walsall roll of honour as serving in the South Staffordshire Regiment.

I’m not sure Palfrey WMC still exists so don’t have a photo (yet).

    Cheers
