The regimental histories for the 3rd, 4th and 5th Gurkha Rifles for the 1939-45 period are difficult to locate and view. I have viewed them many years back at the New York Public Library. The three histories are:

Barclay, Brig. C.N. The Regimental History of the 3rd Queen Alexandra’s Own Gurkha Rifles. Volume 2 - 1927-1947. London: William Clowes and Sons, Ltd.,1953.

Macaulay, Col. J.M. A History of the 4th Prince of Wales’s Own Gurkha Rifles. Volume III - 1938-1948. London: William Blackwood and Sons Ltd.,1952.

Anon. History of the 5th Royal Gurkha Rifles (Frontier Force) 1919-1947: Volume II Aldershot: Gale and Polden, 1956.

If a member of the forum owns a copy of any of these histories, I would like to offer a trade of information. I have an large collection of other Indian Army regimental histories for the period. I would be willing to copy any sections from my histories in exchange of a copy of information from these histories. The exchange is not limited to only Indian regimentals since I have an extensive collection of WWII British regimental histories as well. If you are interested, please get in touch with me by starting a conversation.

Those three regimental histories are really rare and if one pop up somewhere it is usually quite expensive. I am also looking for them for long time, so far unsuccessfully. So I can’t help you whit those. But I have couple of war diaries for some battalions of those three regiments, specifically:

3rd Queen Alexandra's Own Gurkha Rifles
    • 1st Battalion for 1942
4th Prince of Wales's Own Gurkha Rifles
    • 1st Battalion for 1942 (unfortunately it is handwritten and not easy to read)
    5th Royal Gurkha Rifles (F.F.)
    • 1st Battalion for 1941
    • 2nd Battalion for 1942 & 1943
    • 3rd Battalion for 1942 & 1943
    • 4th Battalion for 1943
So if you need any info from those feel free to contract me.
