I am trying to complete my next book on no. 13 Sqn during the Battle of France 1939-40. £x of its pilots who survived the war, I am trying to track any leads of there families down.

    - Pilot Officer James Cole - found this, but no joy of where the sons and daughters are now.

Wing Cdr James Gordon DFC Cole | Hereford Times

    - Pilot Officer Basil Silva Day - I think he had a family connection on peerage, but cannot find the information again. I did track someone down in the States, but again, this data, I cannot find .... bugger.

    - Flying Officer Peter Lowdnes Dakeyne - There is a trust, but contacting the solicitors who manage it, they were not very helpful.

Any leads, or even a sniff for family connections would be great!

    Thanks

    Danny

    Danny,

There are two members who do genealogy research, one popped up recently and the other has been here awhile longer. failed to identify them readily, back later.

The later is Wayne Farmer, who uses Guybrush_Threpwood here and his website is: Get Started

    (Unable to edit above post).

Your 3rd target's correct name is: Peter Lowndes Dakeyne. Born 1917 @ Kuala Lumpur, Died 2000. RAF Service Number 39068.

Appears he reached the rank of Wing Commander till 1949 and married Edna Aeworth in 1949 (no children shown).

His brother had four children. Details shown on Essex 14 and one of them, Mark was a company director till 2023, using a c/o address.

A mention July 2025 in Parliament by a Conservative MP (David Reed, Exmouth & Exeter East):
From: Westminster Hall Debates in the Commons on 17th July 2025

Anyway that will do for now.

Thanks for all of this guys, David, I don't know how you do it! I tried to follow on the lead on Mark D, are you seeing him as a solicitor, or someone different with his business address.

    Thanks for all of this.

    Danny

Regarding Cole, I think he might have had a son, Robin who was in the security business.

    Danny,

Standby, this is tracing relatives, so I am reluctant to add names etc here.

Basil Silva Day died in Australia in 1995, but no specific information on family members. A couple of options remain and Danny updated yesterday.

Hi David, I chatted to Simon Dakeyne the other day, and Peter's grandson will hopefully make contact. I also think I found a link to Judy Cole in the Midlands. Could you check that telephone number as it does not seem to be recognised, unless a old number?
