    Thanks for copy of diary Drew.
    Great to pin point that he was HQ 1GB staff. I will go off and see what I can find on them.

    Lieutenant Gustavus Lascelles Hamilton-Russell is down as being in the Grenadier guards and killed on the beaches at Dunkirk on 2 June 1940. Does anyone have his battalion? I thought he might have been with Brigade HQ but no idea which one! Any help much appreciated.

    Listed as 3rd Bn in their regimental history but....
    see this thread on him.
    Grenadier Lt killed at Dunkirk photo / info request

    Where Andy says
    ''He's in 1st Guards Bde and in the field return for the 5th May he was on leave. He was wounded on the Mole and died in the UK according to the diary. ''

    Don't forget to use the search function on the forum as lots of info is already on here .
    Easy to find him with such a unique name.

    who died age 33
    on 02 June 1940
    Son of Gustavus William Hamilton-Russell, J.P., D.L., 9th Viscount Boyne and of Viscountess Boyne, C.B.E. (nee Lascelles), of Bridgnorth. His brother, the Hon. Desmond Claud Hamilton-Russell, also died on service.
    Remembered with honour
