I am interested in finding more out about one of camp 48 Greenfield Farm's hostels - felin fach. Our farm, Cefnmachllys, was taken over by the Brecon War Ag from 1943-1949 and many Italian and German pows are said to have worked at the farm just a few miles from the felin fach hostel. We have an old stand of beech trees on the farm in a top field with German and Italian carved words etc on Would love to possibly find out more.

Felin fach held Italian pows, unknown main camp - then it was taken over by Greenfields Camp 48:

Felin Fach. (Brecon) c.30 miles from the main camp. Huts

Local memories place Italian pows at this site before 1946.

    12/1946 – Hostel leader; H/Wm Bischofsberger

1/1947 – Leader Max Bischofberger (B+), aged 32. Not a Nazi party member, and often had difficulties with them. A farmer. “Intelligent and sincere… the hostel is well run.”

The hostel had its own working committee to develop meetings and activities.

7/1947 – Hostel leader; Hfw Josef Thiebach (B), previously leader at Cross Gates. Had its own choir which gave performances at the local church.

    11/1947 – same leader.

    Numbers:

    12/46 - 79 / 1/47 - 82 / 3/47 - 73 / 6/47 - 94 / 7/47 - 103 / 9/47 - 65 / 11/47 - 66
