I've posted about the War Crime Investigation commissioned in 1945 by Supreme HQ of Allied Expeditionary Force (SHAEF). Capt A.E. Andrews led the investigation and came to the conclusion that the allegations couldn't be proven. More here: Alleged War Crimes at Winnezeele – 140th (5th London) Army Field Regiment, Royal Artillery

This is fantastic. Apologies but I am late to this thread. I am currently writing a book about servicemen from my small town in SOuth Wales who served in the war and one of the chapters is about my Uncle Horace Wiltshire who was int eh 5th Battalion and survived all this. He lived briefly in Brynamwr where he met his wife and then he moved to Winchcombe. I have some photos of him. This book chapter looks fantastic - do you have the reference? I'd love to buy a copy. I am also on the hunt for a full copy of the war diaries - are they downloadable from the National Archives? If anyne has any stories or photos they would be prepared to share for the chapter in the book I would be really thrilled. Thanks again for posting in this thread.

Hi Michael, incredibly interesting to hear you’re writing a book about servicemen from your town in South Wales. Even more fascinating that your Uncle Horace was part of the 5th Battalion and survived! I don’t know if you’ve seen it already but I’ve previously posted some photos of my Great Uncle on this thread. He was in the 5th Battalion and was from Bridgend, South Wales. Unfortunately he didn’t survive Ledringhem.
