    Hello Paul,

I have just joined the site and would like to contact relatives or anyone who may have served with or has an interest in the 52nd (Lowland) Reconnaissance. In particular..my dads regiment - 52nd (Lowland) Division 'C' Sqn, Highland Light Infantry. RAC

I would appreciate your advice on how to post some pictures and articles on here.

    Regards Jeff Rossiter

Hi Jeff welcome to the forum. Great to have another Recce on board. As for posting go to eg Recce Section, click start new topic. To attach pics etc click Attach Files. As this is a new format we are all on a learning curve.

    Cheers

    Hi Jeff/All.
I just joined the forum today - in part due to Jeff's post. My Dad, Sgt James Boyd, was also in 52nd Recce 'C' Sqn. Unfortunately, Dad passed away in 1982 (I was 19) and he never spoke to me about the war. However, he did leave the two std texts of 'Time Spent' and 'Mountain and Flood' which I have since read. With it recently being the 70th anniversary of VE Day, I've been doing some more research and I finally managed my first visit to Dad's war time trail - I visited Bremen with his grand-daughter. Although there was nothing to see in terms of memorials etc, we did visit a few places which I believe Dad's troop fought through including; Bassen, Oyten, Hemelingen, Lesum and Bremen itself. What was more interesting and very humbling was a visit to the Sandbostel Concentration Camp - about 1hr drive north of Bremen. According to 'Time Spent', 'C' Sqn were sent up to Sandbostel - so I suspect 'C' fought with Guards Armoured Division in liberating and/or protecting the camp. The small museum at Sandbostel is a fitting if poignant tribute to those who died and survived the horrors of another camp. I have a few old pics amongst my Dad's belongings - I'll aim to post those in the coming days/weeks. I've also just finished reading Carl Shilleto's excellent book, 'The Fighting Fifty-second Recce', available from Amazon (recommended). It contains numerous accounts from all the squads including 'C'.

    Best regards

    Jim Boyd

    Hi Folks.
Huge apologies for taking *so* long to post these pics. Hopefully better late then...

My Dad wrote the (presumed) locations on some of these - I've indicated these where I can. I have no other names - hopefully some folks will recognise a loved one.

I think this is my Dad (Sergeant Jimmy Boyd - C Sqn Recce Reg) in centre with a couple of the lads - possibly an earlier (pre-1945) picture as my Dad looks younger in this one.

My Dad (Sergeant Jimmy Boyd - C Sqn Recce Reg) seated on bike at right-hand side with presumably his troop. This might be in/around Izegem, Belgium in June 1945.

Not even sure if my Dad (Sergeant Jimmy Boyd - C Sqn Recce Reg) is in this one - possibly 5th from right at back standing - with his troop? Early April 1945 - so still fighting at this point.

I also found this cutting amongst his belongings - it's Oct 1945. The match was played on Wed 17th Oct in Hanover. :)
