    Afternoon all,

My great uncle Stanley Brudenell served in several Army units throughout the entire Second World War. He joined the TA (5th Bn, The Northamptonshire Regt) in April 1939 deploying to France with the BEF and subsequently making it back from Dunkirk. He then transfers 513 Coastal Regiment (Aug 41 - Nov 43) until being compulsory transferred to the Lincolnshire Regiment on 18th November 1943. Interestingly, he is then transferred to the Royal Norfolk Regiment on 8th June 1944. His service record states 'NW Europe from 7.6.44 to 10.7.44 ( he was wounded).

Firstly, I thought both the Linc and Norfolks landed on D-Day. Therefore, should Stanley's dates read 6.6.44? Secondly, does anyone hazard a guess as to why he would transfer between both units, so soon to landing in Normandy?

    Regards

Perhaps they [Royal Norfolk Regt] needed immediate replacements

Bill remembers his fallen colleagues on 75th anniversary of D Day - NorseCare
landing on Sword beach was 11 tonnes. We proceeded inland to the village of Hermanville, then on to Colleville. The Battalion’s first objective was Bellvue Farm, code name Rover. We left Colleville and in open farm land proceeded to our target. On reaching midway the two leading companies came under heavy machine gun fire from a very large German bunker. The Battalion suffered approximately 50 killed and wounded and finally captured their target, which they nicknamed Norfolk House.

    Thanks TD.

I have just read the Norfolks War Diary and there is no mention of reinforcements at that early stage of the landings. I wondering if there is mention of transfers between the units in the Lincs War Diary?
