Good evening I've been trying to find out more information on the 61st medium regiment royal Artillery for a while now including trying to find the two books on the regiment does any one know where I can find photos or the books specially for 244 battery my grand dad served with them
Medium Regiments are not easy to follow as they tended to be in AGRA = Army Group Royal Artillery whereas Field Regiments could be attached to Infantry Battalions within Divisions and easier to find but not always.
This might be a start: Denbighshire Hussars - Wikipedia Not an easy route to follow as it seems that like many TA units they had a Regiment for Active Service and one for home defence which often changes name or number depending on which Division they are attached to. A "For Instance" the 67th Field Regiment had four Batteries in 1939 264,265,266, 267. Two (265 and 266) stayed as the 67h eventually going to France but two others were designated Home Defence (basically the older men training up the newer youngsters) and renamed the 119th Field Regiment. They became a training Regiment supplying men as replacements mainly later in the war to 21st Army Group in Normandy. During the Artillery reorganisation in 1941 the 67th acquired a third battery numbered 446. See how it goes and either myself or others might come up with something if you have difficulties. Seek and ye shall find, dont give up. The Imperial War Museum list books on them but dont seem to have them to hand.
Hi Andy, My Dad was in 244, I have a few pictures I’ll dig them out and scan them. What was your Grandad’s name? Cheers Andy G
