Hello Paul, Three other potential 61st Recce war dead are shown in 'Beaten Paths Are Safest' (Howard), one of which also appears in 'The Band Of Brothers' (Taylor). Only one of these can be traced via Geoff's Search Engine. Name:COLLIER, ALAN JOHN Initials:A J Nationality:United Kingdom Rank:Trooper Regiment/Service:Reconnaissance Corps, R.A.C. Unit Text:1st Regt. Age:23 Date of Death:12/07/1945 Service No:10600855 Additional information:Son of Edward and Emma Collier, of Penwortham, Preston. Casualty Type:Commonwealth War Dead Grave/Memorial Reference:Plot J. Row C. Grave 15. Cemetery:PENWORTHAM (ST. MARY) CHURCHYARD The others are: Tpr N Haynes (Both books); Cpl Shaw (Beaten Paths). I don't know how accurate the information in the books is! Best, Steve.
Steve, Collier is definitely 1 Recce, I have his gravestone photo. Do you have the service No of Tpr N Haynes & Cpl Shaw as I have an HAYNES, N 3857326 17/01/1944 & SHAW, F 3859315 16/07/1943 both 18 Recce. Cheers Paul
Hello Paul, No further information on 'Haynes' and only the date of death for 'Shaw' - 11 Dec 1941. I don't doubt that 'Collier's' headstone shows him as 1st Recce, but is it right? Howard, in 'Beaten Paths...' appears to have done a very thorough job and in the case of 'Haynes', he also appears in Taylors 'The Band Of Brothers'. But it maybe that this cannot be solved... Best, Steve.
Hi Steve, I don't have a Shaw with that date of death so maybe he is one I haven't got listed. I think without an Army No this is going to be hard to resolve. I have found a lot of errors with Band of Brothers ROH listings. Cheers Paul
Hi Steve, I don't have a Shaw with that date of death so maybe he is one I haven't got listed. I think without an Army No this is going to be hard to resolve. I have found a lot of errors with Band of Brothers ROH listings. Cheers Paul Agreed; and your Roll of Honour for 61st Recce is the most comprehensive out of the three! Best, Steve.
