Hello I am new to the forum, I am researching my Grandfather- Gunner Stanley Weston of the above unit. Family legend has it that he died on the Burma Railway. My Mother has only a memory of waiting in line for hours for the £25 compensation at the co-op bank in Slough. After discovering him on the Singapore memorial I found his POW index card from the National Archive ( what a terrific place ! ) and am currently waiting on his service record. If there is anyone out there who can point me at other sources of information on this regiment/ battery I would be most grateful. jeff
Jeff I know a Forum Member who has done a lot of research on this unit and I will ask him to contact you. Once they were captured, records of what happened are very scarce. I also have the war diaries for 12 HAA Bty for the period whilst they were with the BEF in France, prior to this unit being sent to Singapore. Would you like a copy? Regards - Rob
I thought this name was familiar and discovered another enquiry from a Female Grandchild of Stanley Weston. Link to their husband's post from October 2010. http://www.ww2talk.com/forum/war-against-japan/25386-cwgc-kranji-singapore-memorial-pics-c25-000-names-now-available.html#post335211
Thanks to "rob" and "ramacal" some information on the unit prior to the far east would be great. I have sent a message to the person who posted last october - it would be great to be able to share information with other family members.
