    Hi guys,

I’m researching my great-granduncle, Fusilier Joseph Ronald Fearnhead (service no. 14717079), who died 18 September 1944 while serving with the 7th Battalion, Royal Welch Fusiliers. He was only 18 years old.

Does anyone hold any extracts, typed summaries, nominal rolls, or copies of the battalion war diary WO 171/1392 for mid-September 1944 (especially 17–19 Sept)? If you do not hold them, could you advise whether you have any information or whether you can suggest a Dutch/Belgian collection that holds copies? Any help or direction would be much appreciated.

    Many thanks, Lee Davis

    Welcome aboard,

It always helps other to add his CWGC details. See: https://www.cwgc.org/find-records/find-war-dead/casualty-details/2109609/joseph-ronald-fearnhead/

His name and number have not appeared here before.

Ancestry shows he was born in March 1926 @ Holywell, Flintshire, Wales; his parents predeceased him.

His Service Number was issued by the General Service Corps (GSC), a new formation from early 1942 onwards, which was an all-arms initial training and assessment unit before allocation to a regiment / corps.

You are in luck re the War Diary from 1st September 1944 to 30th September 1944 is Post 13 and Post 15 18-30/9/1944. See: War Diary: 7 Royal Welch Fusiliers The posts are by Swiper, but he has not logged in for four years and it appears he has not replied to contacts by others.

If you search online with: "7th Battalion" + "Royal Welch Fusiliers" Site:ww2talk.com a few other threads are id'd, I have not looked at them.

    Good luck..
