Although a motor battalion from December 1940, on arrival in Egypt in July 1942 they re-equipped as a motor battalion with equipment from the Middle East. 'C' company was sent to Cairo on July 14th from Tahag to form into an anti-tank company with 2-pounders and rejoined the battalion on the 24th, which had moved up towards Alamein on the 18th. 'A', 'B' and 'D' Companies were motor companies.
