From 14 Sept to 23 Sept 1944, the 13 and 96 Coy RASC (Troop Carrying) came under the command of the 34 Transport Column. Interestingly, 34 Transport Column War Diary gave details (shown below) of the officers within the 96 Coy (Troop Carrying) and their responsibilities within the company.

Does anyone know how to find out the Christian names of the officers on the list?

With the full names, it may be possible to contact living relatives of these men through genealogy, who may have further information.

    Hi Paul

    Q. How do you find an officers Christian name?

    A. Enter his initial and name here Notices | All Notices | The Gazette... and search through the files returned.

If you get too many returns put the search in inverted commas (eg "H.S. Godber")

When you find a match then identify the corresponding service number and search for it.

You will then find his christian name.

    Eg A M Hazlerigg service number found here Page 1700 | Supplement 37521, 2 April 1946 | London...

Searching his SN returns Alexander Maynard

Providing you are not looking for an officer called William Smith your should be ok.

If you have Ancestry searching here may also help

    Hope this helps

    Thanks, Gus,
    Your message was beneficial.

I looked again at the 96 Coy RASC (Troop Carrying) War Diary and found some of the officers' Service numbers and ages. Below is an updated list of these officers

Major A.W. Holmes (110001), born 1918, RASC - Officer Commanding (OC Coy)

I could not find Major Holmes Christian Name despite having his Service Number 110001. The Gazette showed that he resigned his commission on 3rd January 1949 and was granted the honorary rank of Major.

Captain Thomas. Locke (261883) was born in 1916, RASC – Second in Command (2IC, OIC Trg, Ops, Security Welfare, Canteen)

Captain William Miller-Jones (168280) was born in 1915, RASC – Adm Officer (Adm Officer, PRI O.I.C. Messing)

Captain A.R. McInnes, RASC – HQ Captain (OIC Transport, Entertainments and Sports)

Captain Ronald Clifford Beare (269981) was born in 1913, RASC – Workshop Officer (Workshop Officer, Salvage Officer)

Lieutenant Alexander Maynard Hazlerigg (265595), RASC – Platoon Officer (OIC 'C' Platoon, Fire Officer)

Lieutenant R. Lane, RASC – Platoon Officer (OIC HQ Platoon, OIC Gas, PAD, Education. PMC Assistant Transport Officer.)

Lieutenant F.N. Bates, RASC – Platoon Officer (O.I.C. 'A' Platoon, Savings Officer)

Lieutenant Henry Seaton Godber (278862), RASC – Platoon Officer (O.I.C. 'B' Platoon)

The War Diary also showed two more officers who joined. These were

Captain Kenneth Eaton Wilson (251436) was born in 1915

Lieutenant W. Wood was born in 1910 ((276558)
