"A little local difficulty", or life in a small rural town on an A Road.

We often have problems with large articulated lorries driving on the pavements, damaging the kerb stones, whacking the medieval bridge and so on. Today, a lorry driver has taken it to a whole new level.

Ironically the workmen are still repairing the damage to the bridge caused by the last lorry strike and the A road was closed due to the council finally getting round to fill in the numerous pot holes.

They should start impounding such vehicles until fully reimbursed.

I think that HGV drivers will be able to do whatever they want just now!

It is probably going to take a large crane to get the cab of the lorry out of the collapsed drain. It will be another few hours until a crane arrives from somewhere like Wolverhampton or Welshpool. Meanwhile no local traffic can come from or go to Wales and the town has ground to a halt.

A few more hours and the three school coaches will appear as usual adding to the chaos. I predict crying school children, fights in the corner shop for the last packet of crisps and rioting as soon as darkness falls.

We are doomed I tell you.

She came down from Knighton via Church Street, couldn't cross the bridge because the workmen were repairing the damage caused by a previous lorry. She shouldn't have attempted to go towards Newcastle on Clun as the road was closed for repairs, but almost certainly wouldn't or couldn't reverse back up Church Street, so went for it. Couldn't get round the corner without mounting the pavement.

There have been road signs up for weeks that stated that the roads were going to be closed so that the repairs could be carried out.

    Crikey what a palaver

Our old rural bendy roads are not built for that

A large hole has appeared in the Newcastle Road, the town council are looking into it.
