My sister has just sent me a surprise packet today containing family memorabilia, which includes items from my fathers Reconnaissance Corps days. The copy of the 4th Division's newspaper makes for interesting reading as the Recce is disbanded. My father, according to my mother, also drew cartoons for her and one has survived in the form of a cartoon on a postcard. I hope that the photos and items are of interest. Regards Tom
Tom, Super of your sister to send those over ... might almost make up for the terrible loss of your father's papers. Thanks for sharing, and you really do look like your Dad. D
Thanks for the kind words. I ended up photographed the A3 sized news sheets, plus the small photographs and sized them up a little, but my skills at editing are not very good. I do have to say that my sister came up with a great surprise, that is an understatement. Just looking through the diaries to see if I can identiy the HQ building, but there is mention of the hotel by the lake in the newspaper article, saying they had to relocate due to the mosquito's. Regards Tom

Tom If you join the Rootschat genealogical forum they have some people on there who love editing pictures etc... Have a look in the section first before you commit yourself but they do some good work bringing photos back to life. Dee
Tom Thank you and your sister for letting us share some very personnel and emotive family history, even down to the mailed fist. Oldman
What a neat surprise Tom. I like the cartoon on the postcard there. It looks like Hitler, Goebbels, Goering. Who do you think the last person is though?
I tend to think the caracature on the right is Admiral Dönitz. I had never seen any of these items before today and it was nice to see a photo with a chevron on his sleeve and the 4th Division shoulder patches. Regards Tom
