Hello, everyone! This is an excerpt from the famous nonfiction novel The Longest Day. What does the abbreviation "NYK" above mean? Or is it just a non-sense word in a casual practicing? Thanks in advance!
I agree, this site says that NYK meant “New York, New York” and was in the list of abbreviations of the US Navy during that time period Glossary of U.S. Naval Abbreviations (OPNAV 29-P1000)

Seen in the past for NOT YET KNOWN, usually in Remarks on logs and signals, eg, LOC OF NOK NYK or VEH TYPE NYK. Perhaps doesn't fit readily with context here, but ......
