Hi to everyone. I need your help! I've US Combat Operations Journal and Intelligence Summaries of WW2. There are indicated coordinates similar british war diary (for example 061073), but there are also points as "pt. 79A" or "AA5-Y5". How i can convert this point in actual geographical coordinates??? For british diary i use echodelta translate, but for these?

    Thanks in advance

"pt. 79A" might be a hilltop with an elevation of 79 meters as identified on period maps. Since it also has an "A" there might be another nearby hilltop with a 79 meter elevation (pt. 79B?).

Otherwise they seem to be using a local method to identify locations. Many units used code words or codes to identify points of interest within their area of operations.

Unless you can find a document with the codes the only option is to discern the location by the context and description.

I have had some luck using the puzzle solving skills of ww2Talk members. You could post the context here and maybe we could find what you are looking for.

But for "AA5-Y5" coordinates? I don't think that pt 79A, the number is the elevation, because all hills are more or less included from 400-800 meters....
