An Anglo-Irish border incident 100yrs ago

    Anyone familiar with this incident? I did look in this part of the Forum, nowt readily found.

    I had previously thought the British exit from Ireland, after the political agreement was amiable. On reflection perhaps I was thinking of the pre-1939 handover of the Treaty ports.

    Thank you Richelieu, that was an enlightening article to read - may be with a good dose of bias.

    I was aware of the tortuous politics around Irish independence, plus the civil war that followed and a little about the violence in what was to become Northern Ireland, though not that "unsuitable" Protestants were forced to leave.

    So, the British exit was not 'amiable'.

    Now many years ago I drove around that border area, including Belleck - as I recall being stopped by a Parachute Regiment manned permanent vehicle checkpoint (PVCP), who was bemused that I was driving and had an American passenger - his advice was that the American should do all of the talking.

    Even longer ago I had read a book about Montgomery. I have no recollection of what the article states:
