Yet another quest to try & find some history on a house that I am researching - you may have seen my other threads! I know the house was used in the war but I am trying to find out by who & what for & not getting very far! I was told over the weekend that after the evacuation from Dunkirk a lot of the Coldstream Guards (& the Scottish Horse?) were stationed in Laceby. This could have been in 1943. We believe the Officers were at the house and the Sargeants were elsewherein the village. The house is Kingsfield in Laceby, nr Grimsby, Lincolnshire. Does anyone have any information that may help me to find out if this is the case??? I was originally told the Home Guard used it then the Signals & now the Coldstream Guards! Thanks Michelle
Michelle, I searched the web a little for you and found the attached site, which has a hyperlink to the Local Historical Group. I hope that this is of help to you and your research. Roll of Honour - Lincolnshire - Laceby Regards Tom
Thanks. The info I am getting is mainly coming from people who are part of the group or know others in the village. The group have written the Laceby Chronicles & it does mention in there that the Coldstream Guards were in the village, nothing about where they were based though! Thanks you
Michelle, Here is a link if you have not already contacted the Guards Museum. There appears to be several contacts that may prove useful. Guards Museum - Things to do in London - All in London Regards Tom
Try and find out the name of any local newspapers published at the time. Even if defunkt now, the archives may well have been passed on to other newspapers. Just a thought and another line of enquiry to pursue. Regards Tom
I have contacted the local library about it & waiting for a reply. I still need to contact the paper - proving difficult to get hold of! Have also been onto coldstreamers.co.uk & they have no record of them being in Laceby but are still looking. Thanks for your help!
