Hi all, been researching the men on the local war memorial and have come across a RAF man buried in the local cemetery. I do have a photo of him but it is very poor and I cannot use it in my project. Any extra information or even photos of the crash or of Dennis himself would be great. This is what I have on him:
Sergeant Dennis Booker | War Casualty Details 610543 | CWGC 610543 Sergeant Air Gunner DENNIS MAITLAND BOOKER, No.158 Squadron, Royal Air Force, killed in action, February 14, 1943 aged 22. Son of John Herbert and Agnes Isabella Booker of Hawthorn Cottage, Wybunbury. Buried Wybunbury (St. Chad) Churchyard, Cheshire, England (Centre Plot Row 3. Grave 15)
and commemorated on the Shavington and Wybunbury War Memorials.
Had been in the Royal Air Force five years and had taken up flying eighteen months previous after working in the clerical department.
In October 1942, when returning from an operational flight, he had to bail out at 5,000 feet over England.
On February 14, flying in a Halifax Mk.II (DT696 NP-O), Sergeant Booker and crew took off at 18.16 from R.A.F. Rufforth, Yorkshire on a mission over Köln, Germany. Only a few minutes into the flight, the aircraft crashed at Stillingfleet, 4 miles NW of Riccall, Yorkshire. Just before the crash the bombs were jettisoned near the village of Appleton Roebuck. All seven crew members were killed. His body was taken to Hope Methodist Church, where it lay overnight, before burial at Wybunbury on February 19.
MANY THANKS FOR READING. BEST WISHES, MARK

    Hello,

It appears he was an only child.

I see NZ405472 F/Sgt Sidney William Cains, RNZAF of this crew attended No. 10 OTU at Abingdon. If Booker did as well it may be possible to find a class photo.

    Regards,

    Dave
