    The subject here is Germany/Germans.
Quite the extrapolation to assume anything further from that post about my relationship with some Germans.

Did that German government behave like Cs?
    Yes.
No QED or inference on any other subject there at all.

Incabloc? And I'm not talking Royal Hunt of The Sun here.

Though I am likely talking gibberish :)

Kind regards, automatic movements are the best, always,

    Jim.

Automatics are all well and good, but actually, I enjoy a wind-up !

I don't know if it was actually an Incabloc in those days. Several of my 1960s watches are.

I wasn't aware of this restriction. I assumed referencing other nations would be acceptable if the context relates to the subject of the thread.

I was just curious to know your thoughts on this following your statement.

    I am German.
I can assure you that when it comes to the history of my country - and how I perceive it - I am in many ways somewhat more anti-German than most forum members
And no - it doesn't feel good!
But no one has ever claimed that learning from history would be easy...

To make an elegant connection to the actual thread:
I've been around a lot, as far as anti-German resentment is concerned, this forum is a wellness oasis

    That was very nicely put.

And if it is any solace to you, we all thought the German tanks, planes, uniforms, etc, were the coolest looking ones when we were kids.

Thanks for the uplifting words, Dave
However, I have been confronted with my history for over half a century, I can deal with it quite well
Apart from that, there are reasons why “Weltschmerz” has been internationalized

As for coolness, since I was 7, I've really only known an airplane as the incarnation of power and elegance:

Don't hang your head. Every nation, bar none, has awful, shameful things in its history. My own country, the US, had Negro slavery and many other ugly aspects. And as far as that goes, Fascism was an international phenomenon and other nations than Germany were seduced by it: Spain, Italy, Portugal, Romania, Hungary, etc. And there were Nazi/Fascist sympathizers in the US, Britain, France. Nazis found collabos throughout occupied Europe.

Also, every nation has fine things in its history and that is of course true of Germany. I am a Lutheran and as such will always be grateful for the Reformation which Luther started. The German liberal tradition may have lost out at home to authoritarianism, but it was quite real and important and it lived on in the US. Many 48ers came to the States, fought for the Union in our Civil War, and made major contributions to our national life afterwards. And individual Germans resisted and opposed throughout the Nazi era. I am sure you know many of their names, but some came to the US and fought in our armed forces. Look up Hermann Boettcher, who won a CMH with the 32nd US Infantry Division in the Pacific, and for that matter Henry Kissinger and the other Ritchie Boys. Jewish by faith they may have been, but they were Germans too.
