The Grand Cinema in Ryhope Village near Sunderland was opened before the first world war and remained a theatre /cinema until the late 60`s before it became a Bingo Hall . It`s most recent use was to store cars for a local garage . The owners donated the building to Beamish Museum where it would be rebuilt brick by brick and returned to it`s former glory . It will become an attraction but will also be a working cinema showing period classics ,

This is the cinema as it was in it`s derelict state;-

It`s reconstruction is well underway and the Cinema will reopen at it`s new location in 2024 . The Museum released their artists impression of the reconstructed building :-

Experience cinema like in the old days at the Kinema in the Woods, Woodhall Spa. It dates from 1922 - so Art Deco period, if not what you might have expected - just an old-fashioned cinema tucked away in woodland. Filled with retro decor, live organ performances and ice cream in the interval; offers new releases and cult classics with occasional unscripted sound effects of a real lanc, spit, hurricane, Dakota, or something more recent passing overhead:

Back to basics? Now 100+ years old, but you decide:
