You're quite right--the reference I found gave the title incorrectly and I copied it to this thread's title--I'll see whether I can edit it.

On happier news, op-ack has been in touch and promised a copy of the article after Christmas.

Hallo everyone,

I am looking to find an article published in the Journal of the Royal Artillery where Lt Robin Dunn, 7th Field Regt. R.A., describes his ordeal while providing artillery support to the 2nd Bn Grenadier Guards on May 30th 1940 in the vicinity of Furnes (aka Veurne) in Belgium.

Mr Jerry Murland has published two small extracts of that article in his book 'The Dunkirk Perimeter and Evacuation 1940'. Unfortunately though, this book's bibliography doesn't include the volume nor the year of edition. So, apart form being aware of the article's existence, I have next to nothing to go on - the proverbial needle in the haystack...

I have reviewed both the 7th Field Regt. R.A and the 2nd Bn Grenadier Guards' war diaries, but I must admit Lt Dunn's account seems to provide much more insights. At least that's the impression I had reading Mr Murland's extracts. I would therefor very much get hold of the full article.

Could someone help me out or hint me in the right direction?

I've only just seen this response, I'm afraid!

Is my memory at fault or does the Oct 1948 volume include an article on the 4th Ind Div artillery in Tunisia?

 

Post 231 in: BEF rearguard action on the Nieuport-Dunkirk canal (May 29th till May 31st 1940) refers to research on the requested article. Alas not found.

 

Does anyone know if these journals include any articles, etc, on 33 Para Light Regt RA or 7 Para Regt RHA?

I'm only interested in the 50s/60s.

I've checked all the respective Pegasus Journals, but with no success.

Meanwhile, I think I discovered where Mr Murland found Lt Dunn's accounts he referred to in his book: https://www.iwm.org.uk/collections/item/object/1030002798

"Object description: Well-written ts diary (17pp) recording his command of a Troop of the 7th Field Regiment RA supporting the 8th Brigade (3rd Division) in the advance into Belgium and the subsequent evacuation from Dunkirk, May 1940, describing the continuous stream of Belgian refugees; the many rumours; constant German bombing; foraging for food; and the high morale of the troops."

Subsequently, I emailed the IWM, requesting them to send me a copy. Since it's the first time I make an enquiry to the IWM, though I followed the instructions on their website to the letter, I do not know what to expect.

AS you know Dunn served in a field artillery regiment in France 1940 and then with the HAC in the Western Desert. I wonder if he contributed to the HAC Journal post-war too?

Just registered and tried the 'free trial for 7 days' option.
This allowed me to ascertain that there are indeed archive files that may (or may not?) contain what I'm looking for.
But then - bang ! - going ahead requires yet another paid subscription... Sorry, but no more.
I'll take my chances with the IWM.
