I am working about german women in A.T.S during WW II. I have a question to you. Is it possible, that german emigrant could have joined the ATS? Especially I am interested in a german woman, namen Irene Fuchs. She was born on Dec. 5 th, 1905 in Konstanz/Germany. She emigrated in 1939 to Great Britain. In the National Archive I found a paper, that shows, that she joined the ATS 1942. But not until 1950 she became the britisch nationality.
may be you can answer my question. Thank you very much.

Deacs Well i am from Cumbria.

Now then I am going to stick my neck out here so this could be the lady in question.

If I have found the right Irene on Ancestry and that she sadly died in 1951 there are 2 family trees one you can read and the other one is private. And if this is the same Irene the family tree you can read says her mother Selma Koblenzer born 4th April 1882 sadly died 27th March 1944 in Auschwitz concentration camp.

So I am going to come to the conclusion that she could be Jewish ? So in that case yes she could have joined the British ATS here is a link to a Jewish womens archives,

I do hope that I have the correct Irene if not I am very sorry and will delete as soon as possible.

    Mike.

Yes, enemy aliens were recruited to the ATS, mostly those that could be categorised as refugees. They had to be vetted and were employed in groups - termed Allied Volunteer Platoons - to carry out domestic, rather than operational, tasks.

Thank you, yes this is Irene Fuchs I mean. She was jewish from birth, aber she herself characterrized as undenominational. And thank you for the Information, that jewish women could join the ATS without having british citizenship.
