Award British Empire Medal L/Bdr. Herbert Dennis Ford, 3 Survey Regiment, Royal Artillery (1122806)

L/Bdr. Ford has been a Flash Spotting observer since the arrival of the regiment in Sicily. During the whole time his coolness, efficiency and disregard of his personal have well above the average. Between 1st January and 3rd May, L/Bdr. Ford was in command of a Flash Spotting O.P. in action on several occasion. He personally has been responsible for providing much useful intelligence and Counter Battery information, all of which materially assisted his Flash Spotting Troop in locating 75 Hostile Batteries during the period. Much of this work was carried out in extremely adverse weather conditions with snow and intense cold and in close contact with the enemy. The weather conditions also made the supply and maintaining of this OP in action a most hazardous and trying problem. In spite of this, L/Bdr. Ford's O.P. consistently produced good results during the whole period. At all times L/Bdr. Ford's efforts and example have been an inspiration to his part and his good judgement, unselfishness and leadership have materially assisted in keeping up he morale of his post in a very trying time.
