For my Cockermouth project my initial list has now come down to 2 names on Basra War Memorial. So I am wondering what is the possibility of ever getting photos ? Mike.
Few years back someone on the GWF send me a photo of the panel with the Wiltshires on it. Not sure I have it anymore. Might be worth having a look around on there . Must be some pics out there in internetland.
Hello Michael Looks like the cemeteries have been badly damaged over the years. info from CWGC Visiting Information NOTE: Whilst the current climate of political instability persists it is not possible for the Commission to manage or maintain its cemeteries and memorials located within Iraq. Alternative arrangements for commemoration have therefore been implemented and a two volume Roll of Honour listing all casualties buried and commemorated in Iraq has been produced. These volumes are on display at the Commission's Head Office in Maidenhead and are available for the public to view. The Commission continues to monitor the situation in Iraq and once the political climate has improved to an acceptable level the Commission will commence a major rehabilitation project for its cemeteries and commemorations. Before considering a visit to Iraq the Commission strongly recommends that you check the advice given by the Foreign & Commonwealth Office on the travel section of their website: http://www.cwgc.org/find-a-cemetery/cemetery/57200/Basra%20War%20Cemetery Perhaps if you called CWGC they would send a photo of the Roll of Honour casualties from the book based at Maidenhead . regards Clive
I have been told that there maybe a chap who can help so I have sent an email, will let you know how I get on. Mike.
If I remember correctly The War Graves Photographic Project have photos of all the panels which you can buy from them. Personally, I wouldn't use them but it's an option.
Okay Geoff I will ask if he gets back in touch. Or like what Jonathan said I may resort to asking The War Graves Photographic Project, I do agree Jonathan but if all fails I will do it.
Mike, To pick one photo here and there is not a huge impost however if you wanted to use that photo in a book for instance, they still own the copyright. They say where and how "your" photo can be used. I have no intention in the short term as I will be donating my photo's to the RAAF museum in Melbourne (Point Cook) and they might! Maybe we could pay some brave man's Airfare and Accommodation and he could get them all for us around those area's. Cheers Geoff
I didn't know that Geoff the robbing buggers, so why do you pay £3.50 for a photo and it isn't yours to do what you please with
