Could anyone help clarify what my uncle referred to as a Bath Badge please? On the back of a photo, he wrote that he gained his Bath Badge. He was a Sargeant in the Royal Artillery. Thank you. Paula
Paula, All I could find on line was this description of something called a Bath Star rank badge. It might be relevant in this case: Bath Star - Rank Badge - Royal Horse Artillery (RHA) - Royal Artillery - British Army Badge.
Thank you. However, I found this information too and he wasn't in the Royal Horse Artillery. Maybe it was a slang term, but any searches I did kept coming up with the Bath Star too. I appreciate your response though. Paula
I'm afraid I don't know the answer to either of those points. He didn't survive the war though. Paula
Is he wearing any badges in the photo? it would make sense to write a caption that tied in with the actual image (but not everything in life makes sense)
No problem Tim. I don't have the photo (another family member does) but I'll see if there is anything to work with from that. Thank you all. Paula
Just a thought. Many soldiers, for various reasons, were given basic swimming/water survival courses run by the APTC. I have come across civilian style ASA awards amongst the inevitable soldier's 'odds and ends'. I can see these being at 'The Baths'.
I think these were generally awarded under the auspices of the Royal Life Saving Society and the only one of these that was in the form of a badge was the instructor's certificate. You had to have the Bronze Medallion as a minimum before getting one of these.
