Lads, given that there are several threads regarding books about a certain war or period of it, wouldn't it be a good idea to start one on the Korean War? :D

Contributions are most welcome, specially regarding the UN contribution to the effort... Bibliography on the Commonwealth, Belgian, French, Turk, etc., contigents is rather scarce, expensive, and existing jobs, in most cases, are difficult to find :mad111:

    Here's my initial contribution:

Fortune Favours the Brave, by A.J. Barker

To the Last Round, by Andrew Salmon

The Royal Ulster Rifles in Korea, by H. Hamill

British Part in the Korean War (2 vols.) by Anthony Farrar-Hockley

    Here are a couple:

The First Commonwealth Division: The Story of British Commonwealth Land Forces in Korea 1950 - 1953 by Brigadier C.N. Barclay CBE DSO.

Korea: The Commonwealth at War by Tim Carew

Some of the WW2 regimental histories also extend into the Korean War, The Middlesex Regiment's is one that springs to mind.

The Korean War, by Max Hastings, is a good overview.

If you ever find this job at a lot less than 80 quid, please let me know... :angry2:

Am looking all over the place for not-so-expensive Regimental stories to fill the gap, but they are also hard to find :(

Not to mention subsequent volumes... Seemed like a dream come true or something like that when I found the ad last week, but then reality slapped me in the forehead with that release date thing :(

Helion has the unfortunate habit of floating titles out there to test the interest (pre-orders) and then deciding whether or not to publish them. I recently ran into that with the reprint of Rays of the Rising Sun: Japan's Asian Allies 1931-45: China and Manchukuo: Amazon.ca: Philip S. Jowett, John Berger: Books. It was upcoming on their site for a long time and then disappeared. I contacted the publisher and was told that publication had been cancelled due to lack of interest. It now means I have to look for a $200US+ copy if I want one.

On a side note another book I found and forgot to mention is
Strange Battleground: Official History of the Canadian Army in Korea by Lt Col Herbert Fairlie Wood
Published in 1966, it was made a time when books were still crafted so it has some great colour fold out maps.

    Lads, here's another one:

"The Korean War; The Story of the Fighting Commonwealth Regiments 1950-1953", by Tim Carew.

Has anyone read it? Is it worth the time expenditure?

"This Kind of War", by T.R. Fehrenback, remains the all-time classic on this war, in my opinion.

"The River and the Gauntlet" is also outstanding. Don't remember the author right now.

    Both are US-centric. Doc

S.L.A. Marshall wrote it, together with "Pork Chop Hill".

    Good fox-hole level narratives.
