Does anyone know anything about these men or have records relating to them.? I know that Wix was originally RA with 69 LAA and Darlington also RA. I also think that after the war Darlington may have emigrated to South America. Still trying to get more info on this unit and where they were, but war diaries are very patchy.
Arthur Brooke Darlington has an SOE P/F HS9/395/4 which remains closed The Wix you refer to is Lt Gordon Francis Wix HS9/1615/4 which is open
Hi z Do you have a date of birth and/or place of birth for him - I might be able to find something on Ancestry about him and his movements TD
Thanks all. Interesting that Darlingtons file is closed. Why would that be? Jedburgh, any chance of copying Wix and also Tullochs 1945 for me when you are there next. Pm me if you need my details again.
His file is closed because the rules state that 100 years must have passed from date of birth before the file is opened unless a proof of death can be provided - of the 13,000+ P/Fs in HS9 over 7,500 remain closed. my ongoing project is having these files opened though it is a gradual process with about 150 files being opened each month.

You are obviously an expert at exploring BMD records., TD .Doesn't fit with the emigration to South America but this was only a passing mention somewhere, so may not be true. Thank you.
Not an expert, just someone who has picked up a few tricks along the way and enjoys solving problems - now where have I put my Sudoko TD
Hi Jedburgh22, I wasn't aware so many files remain closed in this way. Then no sooner had I read your post here, I searched for one of my boys and it came up as closed. See link; http://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/details/r/C12046065 With the FOI request, do I have to state my reasons for wanting to view the file? Thanks Steve
Hi Steve If you have proof of death ie a Death Certificate, Printed Obituary or photo of the Gravestone it usually suffices the more info you can give on the application helps, in your case there is 2 more years before opening is eligible under the 100 year rule. Steven
Thanks Steven, I know he died in January 2006. I'll search for an obituary for him, then complete a FOI request. Interesting character 'Fish' Herring.
Hi Both His death details (assuming this is him) are as in post #8, so applying to Bedford registry office should provide anyone with a nice new copy. England & Wales, Death Index, 1916-2007 about Arthur Brook Darlington Name: Arthur Brook Darlington Birth Date: 2 Sep 1920 Date of Registration: Oct 2006 Age at Death: 86 Registration district: Bedford Inferred County: Bedfordshire Volume: -1 Page: -1 Register Number: C17D District and Subdistrict: 309/1C Entry Number: 045 TD
Quick update on this thread. I sent in a FOI request for my man DC. Herring and his file open date was brought forward by one year and I was able to access it recently. So persistence and knocking on the door (so to speak) does work sometimes.
