Postwar fatal collision and derailment at Barberton, Ohio, April 1951. Three National Guardsmen were killed when this M4A3 was hit by a Chicago to New York express train, moving at 60 mph. Could not find a photo of the turret that was ripped off the Sherman tank.

I don’t know if Sherman No. 50 was stopped by gunfire, engine trouble, or water in the works, but this picture might be of interest. On June 6, 1944, the photographer Sgt. Mapham advanced a fair distance inland to photograph the war memorial at Hermanville-sur-Mer Eglise, but for reasons unknown Mapham returned to Sword Beach on June 7th where he made pictures of this tank and other remains of the previous day.

The Tank Museum had a DD Sherman on display with the same turret number and a drive-thru window installed in the raised swim curtain. However, when I checked the Web page this tank was not listed in the collection.

One possible outcome when the external fuel tank was not ejected before a plane landed on the flight deck. Spilled avgas from a leak was sometimes ignited by friction or engine heat. In this case the drop tank ruptured on landing, during this February 1945 accident. Ensign Ardon Ives escaped from this barbecued F6F-5 Hellcat fighter. Note the remains of the drop tank after the fire was extinguished.

I think that's a Mack NO on the right. Never seen one with single tires on the rear axle before. British spec maybe?

Did she say "Bugger" ? Another example of a Ministry of Information photograph being claimed by a modern commercial organisation, regrettably.

Maybe he's trying to provide counterweight to keep it from tipping over the side?

I can only imagine the life of a Submariner, but I'm guessing the sound and sensation of that hitting was... interesting.
