Unfortuantely, due to the attentions of some of the lesser, appreciative [younger?] members of our society, the Council have had to place locked gates to this memorial.

Are you sure this is the man? Anyway, the following extract from a booklet dealing with WW1 and WW2 casualties in the Leintwardine area reads: ' Lewis, John Listed on the War Memorial inside Adforton church (as John Lewis i.e. with an ‘i’) and on the War Memorial in Leintwardine Cemetery (as John Lewes i.e. with an ‘e’). In both cases as a casualty of the Second World War.
Without more details I cannot be certain but Frank Goodwin of Leintwardine (1921-2008) told me he believed this was the man who was born at The Heath, who moved to Adforton, and who died in a POW camp in the Far East. He might, therefore, be Gunner John Lewis of the Royal Artillery, service number 884429, who died 16th February 1942, age 21, and is commemorated on column 23 of the Singapore Memorial.
Let me know if I can be of any help. John

    Liverpool, Merchant seamen's memorial

All names of the men are listed under the ships in which they sailed, there are too plates many to photograph. The memorial was erected and maintained by the CWGC.
The final two, picture the general view to the memorial, showing a simple monument to the men and women who have no grave but the sea.

Reflecting the Christmas truce of 1914. Erected in the grounds of St. Luke's [the bombed out] church, top Bold Street, Liverpool.

    Liverpool,

The first is to the citizens of Liverpool and Bootle who lost their lives in the blitz 1940-42, situated close to the Pierhead Liverpool, the second is 'In Honour of all Heros of the Marine Engine Room__', situated at the Pierhead.
