This is not a local war memorial, but one I am acquainted with in the town of Hoogstraaten in Belgium. (My Dad's Regiment was part of a composite unit called "BobForce" which helped liberate some of the local villages).

The WW2 Monument which is at the end of a path, along which there are 39 individual pillers commemorating each of the 39 Civilian War Dead of the Gemente of Hoogstraaten.

The base of the monument with some of the civilian names on a plaque.

A plaque added to the monument in 1994 honouring British 1 Corps, British 49th Division, 104 (Timerwolves) American Infantry Division and the 4th Canadian Armoured Division.

My own cross of remembrance to the fallen of my Dad's unit during their time here.

And to their fellow 1 Corp RA Regiment of BobForce.

A rather sombre looking yours truly standing by the memorial.

Not my local memorial, but I found this at Victoria Falls last month. I was doing some bird watching and stumbled upon it. It's pretty overgrown

    Great Crosby, Mersyside

Hi Diane, no sunny blue skies, just grey Autumn backdrop to reflect the tragedies these monuments reflect.
Base plates to follow, with more hopefully as I travel around.
