I know the War Diaries for the CEF of WW1 are at Kew, I've read a few.
Are there any WW2 ones there or are they in the National Archives of Canada?
I was wondering where the A & SH of Canada's WD was?
What's the Catologue Number for it too ?
It might help George Wilkinson with research into his Uncle Lorne.

There are copies of all the WW2 Commonwealth War Diaries at Kew. Many of them contain all sorts of original stuff, including photos. I have the entire catalogue for the Canadian ones on the HD of my desktop; will check it when I am back.

That would be of great interest to me. Military Cross is kindly looking at contacts in Canada so I can obtain some unit information and if some of it is in the UK, that would be fantastic

    WO 179/2924

    WO 179/4497

    The search function is shite.

I second the above comment. Found 2 out of 4 units I am looking for.

I'm now looking for 127 LAD and 131 LAD and have tried countless combinations without success.

It's Double Shite for that search engine Owen!!

Other than that, thanks to Paul for letting us know that copies exist in the UK. Brilliant.

They often include a lot of 'extras' as well. In the Black Watch of Canada diaries there are group photos of all the officers for example.

I agree TNA's search can be difficult, but the catalogue descriptions of WW2 diaries are 'odd' to say the least.

What about the CRA War Daries, as beside the Regimental books I also would like to put the WDs of my site.

Have you heard that Library and Archives Canada (LAC) is digitizing the entire Second World War war diary collection?

Starting in August last year, the LAC begin scanning the war diaries in support of Project ’44: The Road to Liberation. Tens of thousands of pages have been scanned, providing a plethora of documents that have not been seen by the public in 75 years!
