I'm new to the Forum and wanted to share this project with you all. I've been working on it for some time and full details are available on my blogsite (link at bottom of page). I've been building and painting kits and figures since I was a kid but have only been sculpting for about a year and I love it! I usually work in 1:35th scale but for this and future projects I've shifted to the 'massive' 1:10th/12th scale (its all by eye and I don't intend to release anything commercially). I usually start off with a sketch and then spend plenty of time researching the uniform and kit (I collect anyway which helps), I then make a wire armature which is roughed out with Milliput. I use Magic Sculpt for the finer details. I've attached a couple of pics but feel free to visit the blog. Anyhow, enough waffle. Hope you like, let me know. Cheers all. Matt
Said it before Matt but that's remarkable work. Speaking as someone who has trouble scratch-building an ammo crate I'm seriously impressed at the modelling of a convincing figure from scratch - genuine artistic skill required. Looking forward to seeing it painted up, I could do with more figure tutorials. (Go on Owen, have a go at a figure - we've seen your old stuff and it's rather good.)
Small world isn't it Matt, Andy here from Armorama. Its good to see you spreading your wonderful work around the web.

Finished the sculpting of the chindit. I need to make a start on the groundwork and some japanese items which will be at his feet. Please let me know what you think, I've gone 'blind' from looking at him for so long! Cheers Matt
Matt One would have to be blind not to recognise talent when it is so easily recognisable. I am most impressed ! Cheers Ron
Thanks for all the positive comments. Good lord, I've gone green with envy. Shouldn't you be working for a figure manufacturer Matt? I'm very flattered by that, but need to work up a few more before I'm totally happy with the end product and as yet I'm not. This isn't false modesty, I can see that the figure is good, I just feel its not good enough to approach any manufacturers. Also, I think one becomes limited by the casting limitations? On a figure like this, I'm not sure they'd be able to reproduce the shirt front for example... mind you, if someone wanted to pay me I'd think about it! Cheers again Matt
