Hello and welcome to the forum.
Unfortunately I can't tell you where I got the info from. It should have been a simple matter for me to check my spreadsheet, but the CG one seems to have been corrupted. When I can, I will check my other comp. to see if there is an older backup copy.
What I can tell you is that the nominal roll was built up from info in CWGC, Gallantry recommendations, POW lists, War Diaries and other files at TNA, the Regtl History, as well as other publications, and photos. The more obvious books, such as Boscawen's and the official History, don't seem to feature your grandfather in their indexes either.
Searching what WD's i have transcribed on the forum have come up with nothing, so if his name cropped up in conjunction with a Squadron ID, it might well be that he is mentioned in the labyrinthine file of Missing Personnel reports for CG in NWE (enquires were made about missing comrades last known circumstances). The file would take hours to check properly, something I can't do right now, so hopefully I can get another copy of the spreadsheet and report back.

    Hi,

I have got the name tags of H. Hall with the number: 2659883. I could not find him in your list as a member of the Coldstream Guards. Would like to know what his history is, but I suppose will stay a mystery to me.

    Regards,

    Alistair

Not too sure if this is of any value, but I stumbled across some info on a digitised file at the National Archives of Australia and this seems a good a place as any to park it.

The file is titled: Records histories general - military unit histories [Includes papers relating to 4 RAR, 1 RTB, 2 RAR - Royal Australian Regiment South Vietnam, account of Sioux helicopeter incident 9 November 1970, nominal roll of Coldstream Guards Officers]

I have extracted the Coldstream Guards Officers nominal roll as of August 1971 - it is obviously post-war and it doesn't include service numbers but it might be of interest to see some of the names identified as serving with the regiment in WW2 still soldiering on.

    Hi,

    Good photos. Thanks for posting.

If he transferred to RAC then his service papers will likely be with MOD rather than RHQ CG.

Trained Soldier Gatenby in his CG Squad photo has 4 good conduct stripes - so a good few years "unblemished" service. He appears to be wearing 2 medal ribbons. It's difficult to make out the colours in B&W but possibly 1st WW Victory & War Medals or perhaps a Palestine GSM and a LSGC?

    Good Luck

As per request on my profile page, I've added details to the roll.

CARL52 "Hello. I would like to add my Late Fathers name & Guardsman number to your unofficial nominal roll. CECIL LAWRENCE GODDARD. GUARDSMAN 2660895. 1940 TO 1946. Also is it possible from his Guardsman number to determine which Battalion he was in? and any other unknown details about his service. Regards, Carl."

    Also on Carl's own page:
"Searching for ANY information on C L Goddard Guardsman 2660895 1940 to 1946. 3rd Battalion serving in North Africa & ITALY 1943 TO 1945."

This link to MOD site will give information on how to apply for copy service records
Request records of deceased service personnel

What’s the significance of a date next to a name?

2663581 W J Grace has a date next to it.

    Thanks

Can you please add 2666637 Guardsman L. Weight. 5th battalion, Support Coy to you list? Numerically he should be in post 30.
    Thank you,

    Thanks Steve, very much appreciated.

I've just about finished off WG lists and am starting work on SG names.
CG will be next after that, but in meantime please keep adding any more omissions to the relevant lists. I will get around eventually to creating a thread for each identified individual.
