I did some research about the liberation of our village on 16 January 1945 by 9th Bn. D.L.I.
For every soldier that got killed during this operation, I look for information to build a page of honor.
At this moment I am looking for information about Cpl. Harry Jordens
He was killed in action on (16)19 January 1945 in or near Dieteren, The Netherlands
He was first buried in this village and later reburied at the War Cemetery Nederweert.
I believe his father was born in the Netherlands moved to Antwerpen Belgium and later to England where he married. Harry was one of his children. Harry married and in 1943 there was a son born (Liverpool). I am looking for this son of Harry, he could hopefully tell me a little more about his father.

    Regards,
    Henk

    Thanks,
However, his son moved probably to Leeds and maybe still alive (age 77) or his children.
Any help to find a recent contact address or even better an email address would be great.

Cpl. Harry Jordens is only mentioned in the Roll of Honour in the 9th Bn Durham Light Infantry history: 'Gateshead Gurkhas' (Moses).

His date of death appears to have been confused, having been recorded as the 16th, 14th and then 19th January 1945; see documents here: Casualty Details | CWGC

On the 14th, the battalion was located at Munstergeleen, with the attack on Dieteren due to take place on the 15th. This attack was postponed and instead, took place on the 16th. There is only mention of one soldier killed (not him), but 14 were wounded. There were a further 7 soldiers killed on the 17th & 18th and another died of wounds (none him). On the 19th, the battalion was to advance on Montfort, minus ‘D’ Company which would support the 2nd Devonshire Regiment in its task in taking St Joost. There is no mention of any casualties, except that we know from the battalion history that two men died on the 19th (including Harry).

At this time, the 9th Bn Durham Light Infantry was with the 131st Infantry Brigade, 7th Armoured Division.

His service number is from The King's Regiment 3757001 - 3846000 number block allocation. At that time, the regiment was a ‘Liverpool’ regiment. He had service prior to his time with the the 9th Bn Durham Light Infantry.
