27th April 1941 HARRIS, John H, Supply Chief Petty Officer, P/MX 45066, killed [PORTSMOUTH (MILTON) CEMETERY] His ship was HMS Sandwich. He is listed as killed in bombing, I can't see any event involving the minesweeper, so I believe he was killed ashore. Any ideas? Regards, Steve
He was probably one of the many victims of the air raid on that day. ADM 358/3861 might have some details: Portsmouth: 27-28 April 1941; enemy air raid | The National Archives
ADM 104/131 shows place of death as 'Portsmouth'. Like others that have come up this is in contrast to 'At Sea' so I would presume killed ashore in bombing. Tim
Hi Gents, Thanks for all that. Yes it looks like he was a victim of the German air raid on Portsmouth. Regards, Steve
