Firstly apologies to whoever sent this to me but I cannot recall but many thanks to them. This is a nice picture of 3? Crusader Gun Tractors along with 17 pdrs dug in, but I cannot make out ant limbers with these old eyes. To the left is a M4A1? Sherman Mk II with I think the name AZRAEL on the turret. I am guessing at either Royal Scots Greys or 144 RAC. Any confirmation of name or tank appreciated. Cheers Kevin
Hi Kevin, This is photo 104774 from the National Army Museum, showing 3 CLY tanks. I include the direct link, using the photo number is no use in their serach function. One has to use the accession number (1975-03-63-18-34): Invasion craft off King Beach with tanks and AFVs de-waterproofing, Normandy, June 1944 | Online Collection | National Army Museum, London Tank name is indeed AZRAEL. The series of photos by Major WHJ Sale shows many other 3 CLY names (including other shots of AZRAEL - photos 100211 & 100214), but I believe you have most of them in your database already. Michel
Hi Michel. Thanks for the confirmation, as always. Out of curiosity I checked 3/4 CLY and found about a dozen new names from 3 and 3/4 County London Yeomanry. They do not seem to have a standard location for name placement on the turret, sometimes upper left or right others lower left or right even found a B Sqn name that is to the rear of the squadron symbol. Cheers Kevin
Azrael has been ref'd in decals i.e. WWII British Sharpshooters 75th D-Day Special Sherman MkII etc. (Decal) Images List Also... "Angel of death"... Azrael
