I made a surprising find while researching German war cemeteries near Moenchengladbach: 850 infants are buried in a British cemetery now run by the CWGC - children born to British parents who were stationed in West Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands. Near JHQ at Moenchengladbach the RAF ran a hospital at Wegberg where every year British mothers gave birth to about 1000 children. In the 1950 and 60s about 20 to 30 of these did not live long after birth - a normal rate of deaths among infants in those days. Burials started in 1956. The information comes from a German newspaper article - which left me somewhat confused because it also mentions that at Rheindahlen Military Cemetary all in all 1800 British service personnel and dependents are buried. So that includes the children, too?
