    Hi Angela,

You need to contact Tony direct as per the details below!

All these are now available - FREE - to relatives and researchers etc.

Concerning The Rangoon Memorial; You must give me the 'face' number that the name/s is/are engraved upon. There are a total of 56 pillars/112 'faces' and I expect most requests to cover 'faces' 1 to 19.

Contact me via: nt872b(at)hotmail.com. Thank you.

Don't forget to add @ instead of AT in the email.

    Cheers

    Geoff

    Hi Angela,

Your Uncle was marching with his column towards the famous Chindit stronghold named 'Blackpool' when the unit was ambushed by a Japanese patrol. The column was roughly split in two, one half escaping to continue their march, the other caught by the trap.

John was a mule handler in the column and would almost certainly been in the rear section of the group.

I have a missing in action report for John Howard. I will send you a pm later today so we can work out how to pass this over to you.

    Just a quick update.

Angela has her Great Uncle's missing in action details and has shown her family, who are very grateful to learn what happened to Pte. Howard after all these years.

I may have to consider a website for 1 Kings Liverpool soon, as families for these men are appearing on the forum more often.:)

    Hello Buckit,
I am a friend member of the Burma Star Association in Birmingham and have been asked through our Facebook page www.facebook.com/BurmaStarBrum if we could assist Sandra McCarthy with a photo of her Father-in-Law's memorial in Rangoon. If this is possible could you email it to me at info@burmastar.net for me to pass on. She is trying to research where he was KIA in March 1944, and to find out as much as she can about his time spent in Burma, he was Cpl Patrick McCarthy. 4397898 9th Btn Border Regiment died 22nd; March,1944 and commemorated in Rangoon Memorial Myanmar face 13.

    Very many thanks.

    Roger Neal.

    Hi Roger,

Clive beat me to it re: Tony and his contact details. As Corporal McCarthy was killed in action he is unlikely to feature in the WO361 series at Kew (National Archives), however, the file for the 9th Borders might give Sandra some idea about where the battalion was and what was happening around the 22nd March 1944.

I do not have the entire file, but I did pick up the list of missing men, showing their dates (see below).

    The files reference is WO361/481.

    Hi bamboo43

Many thanks I will pass this information on to Sandra as soon as she lets me have her email address.

I am preparing for the Burma Star AGM at the National Memorial Arboretum on Wednesday, I shall be on Standard Bearing duty for the day as well as chauffering one of our RAF veterans to the event. I am expecting it to be quite interesting as they are proposing some changes to the Constitution of the Association. There will of course be the usual Service of Commemoration and Wreath Laying afterwards at about 12:30pm.

    Best regards

    Roger

Good luck at Alrewas Roger. I shall be interested to see the outcome of the AGM. If you bump into Phil Crawley from the BSA, please send him my regards.

    Best wishes.
