Still trying to tie up my fathers movements to India 1942. Pretty certain he was on WS 23 convoy as his embarkation dates etc all tie in with his service record but it’s his disembarkation that’s proving a head scratcher. WS23 arrived at Durban on 3/11/1942 and Bombay 24/11/1942. His service record states that his service in India began on 3/11/1942. Now I always assumed that a person came under the command of their new posting when they arrived there and during their transit were still under the command of their old unit/command for admin purposes, but unless he travelled to Bombay from Durban at Warp Speed does this mean that India Command’s jurisdiction took over at Durban in South Africa?

You've probably already seen this thread that I began on a similar topic lionboxer. If so, I'm sorry for butting in; but your question interests me a lot, so I'm hoping you'll get some helpful replies.

I think during movement from port to port, such as England to India, the unit may have been under WO (War Office) Control. This seem to be the case with the formations listed in Joslen's Orders of Battle.
