Starting a thread on Awards to the Recce Corps. Starting with a list from "This Band of Brothers" by Jeremy Taylor. Did the list as a PDF so as to not have a huge list of names in the thread. These list's are not complete especially the MIDs, any additions are most welcome. Cheers Paul
Paul I might have some of the citations for the Airborne Recce chaps if you want them however night take a while as have just disconnected printer etc, so no scanner. If you can wait until Ive moved house! then I will do it all then when I am up and properly running again computer wise! Regards Andy
Paul, Well done. I looked at Appendix 2 of Only the Enemy in Front, which is the same list, save that the Mentions in Dispatches is just a paragraph, but slightly different from your list. I Quote. In all, 492 Mentions inm Despatches were awarded to the Corps. Of these, eleven were second mentions, giving a total of 481 individuals who received. A significant number of these men-thirty-three-were also recipients of other awards with one officer, Lieutenant-Colonel E A S "Raddy" Brett of 1 Recce, awarded the DSO as well as two Mentions. Regards Tom
Consistently, the most medals won by units, are the Royal Engineers. It certainly was in Monty's Ironsides, for there, the Sappers won 43. With far less men than the infantry battalion's, or come to that. Any other regiments or Corps. Sapper
Excellent research Paul. All awards given to 53rd Reconnaissance Regiment are listed here including Commander in Chiefs Certificate for Gallantry and Good Service. http://www.ww2talk.com/forum/allied-units/22945-53rd-reconnaissance-regiment.html Paul, what is the best way to send you a copy of the transcribed war diary you asked for? I have tried to scan it as a PDF but the file is massive. If you PM your address I could photocopy it and send it via snail mail? Also another copy of this band of brothers has popped up on ebay if anyone is interested, still out of my price range at this point in time!!

Cheers Paul Hi Mitch, I am new member to the Forum. My father 6918419 WS/SGT Leslie "Chunkie" Dunn MM, 5th (3rd Tower Hamlets Rifles) Recce Rgt, seems to be omitted from your list of Awards. I guess that this was due to the Regimental Records being fire damaged in Palestine. The subsequent Roll of Honour was then compiled from memory by the Adj Cliffe Prince. Dad is still with us, he is 90 tomorrow, and we are off to Italy with Poopy Travel in October.
Hi Mick and welcome to the forum. Let me know if you want a free copy of the citation The National Archives | DocumentsOnline | Image Details Regards Andy
Mick, Welcome to the forum. I have your fathers name and am still in the process of obtaining the citations (free) from the NA. Where in Italy are you going to travel? Are any cemeteries included in your trip? Have updated file with your fathers name. Cheers Paul
