Hi, I am still researching the circumstances in which Pte Frank Parkin of the 9 Platoon, C Company, 156 BN was killed in action at Oosterbeek on 23rd Sept 1944. He was initially buried in 25 Paul Krugerstraat before being moved to Oosterbeek CWGC. (His headstone is gives date of death as 18th Sept, but they didn't reach Oosterbeek until the 20th.. I would appreciate it if some kind member could see if there are any clues to his death in the book and possibly a photo? Any info appreciated, Cheers, Rick
On casualty lists posted 'missing' 25/9/44 later amended to 'Previously reported missing now reported killed in action' with a date of 'on or shortly after 18/9/44'. Pte Frank Parkin 14579663 Casualty Details | CWGC
Hi, many thanks, is there any section in the book describing the street fighting in the NE section of the Oosterbeek perimeter around that time? I am looking to purchase the book at some stage. cheers, Rick
There’s a complete chapter and good map dealing with Major Powell’s C Company fighting in the Paul Krugerstraat area but by this time so many had been killed or wounded that the survivors were very mixed up. It might also be worth looking at Powell’s book ‘Men at Arnhem’ for more information about his Company’s acion
