Did I do that ? I must have done, but I was much younger then

This forum is littered with threads to do with the collection of WW2 memorabilia and I have been guilty of posting quite a few articles that show my distaste of those who chose to dress up in SS type uniforms.

I did a bit of trawling and found this earlier posting of mine:

Checking back over my diaries, I am reminded that I actually had two of these SS daggers, one was subsequently swapped for a mini-camera and the second was dropped overboard as described above.

Now, almost 70 years after the events I detailed above, I wondered again how insensitive I must have been to collect these daggers. In my defence I was young, caught up in the excitement and newness of actually facing an enemy who's stated aim was the elimination of people like me. Like thousands before me, I suppose I looked for trophies that showed my enemy was not so invincible.

That anyway, is my excuse but I still cringe at my actions

That's what being young is all about. When I look back at my younger years I think gosh I would not do that now - which in itself is a sign of getting old but hey the antics of our crazy youth will keep us laughing as we grow older . Hoping you are well Ron, kind regards Elsie.
