This is a bit of a shot in the dark! Anyone know how i might trace an Arthur Alfred Green, born 27.4.1914 in Custom House, East London. E16. He is believed to be a dispatch rider, but regiment is unknown at present. He did serve in North Africa. any ideas?? ta

hello, i need some help. My grandfather was Arthur Alfred Green and im trying to find out what he got up to during the war, what type of motor bike he rode? where he may have been stationed? and general info.
heres all the information that i have.
    Arthur Alfred Green D.O.B 27/4/1914
Royal Engineers, drivers-dispatch rider. 8th Army
    based at Aldershot-? Gibralter.
served in Egypt,Italy and the second front France.

Also i know he carried a pistol and had a bad crash in Egypt/North Africa.
Also i remember him telling me that he had a Bren gun strapped on the side of his bike and this along with the jeep carrying four R.A.F personell that hit him was the cause of his injuries.

    any help would be brilliant.

If you don't know what unit(s) he was with you will need to apply for a copy of his service records which will tell you. Once you have this info you'll know what unit diaries to read which will tell you what he was doing on a day to day basis. If he was a motorcycle orderlie/messenger he may even get a mention in the diaries.

    I've merged your 2 threads.

No need to open new threads on same subject; it'll only create confusion and generate duplicate responses.

Just ask if you want something moved to a different section or edited.

As has already been suggested, applying for copy service records is the best way forward.

    Regards
    Diane
