The only clues as to the possible location are the constructions seen in the background.
If I were to make an (uneducated) guess, I would say La Panne.

The lampposts appear to be identical to me.
In the image on the left, the base is obscured by the pile of rifles.
Perhaps it could help to narrow down the location further.

Curiously, the three machine guns appear to be German Maschinengewehr 08 – French WW1 booty perhaps, I know that they retained Mauser Tankgewehr M1918.

Not only the French... the Belgians also still used WW1-vintage captured German MG08/15s in 1940, but these had been modified to fire a 7,65x53 Mauser ammo, which was standard at the time in the Belgian army.

Since the Belgian army used this machine gun as a standard weapon and the border is close by, I agree with Christian's assumption.
Because these are sMG 08 on the original “Schlittenlafette 08” mounts, they are likely to be—please forgive my pedantry—Belgian “7.65 Mitrailleuse Maxim Modele 1908” machine guns. The later 08/15 models with bi/tripods had the suffix “legere” (light), if I'm not mistaken.
Which is quite understandable, given the difference of up to 40 kg.

The comparison of this picture with Keith's photo (post #1341) should lift any doubt on the matter.

I just saw on TV that half of Portugal and southern Spain are currently being flooded... are you OK?

Yep ok, thank you.. 164 Km and up to 200 km + winds and lots of rain, had damage to our house but still could have a brew of tea. We had no power for 5 days but power now on.
Flooding is bad and more wind and rain on the way. I live in central portugal.
Portugal still in a state of emergency.
And this info is a few days ago.
