The Lee-Enfield was more than a rifle. It was the weapon that accompanied British soldiers across the battlefields of the British Empire, the trenches of the First World War, the beaches of Dunkirk, and the campaigns of the Second World War.

Hello I'm new to this site, so I apologise if im asking in the wrong place. I'm trying to look for more information on my grandad Thomas Tafe who was with the Lancashire Fusiliers 1/8 and was sent over to be part of the BEF on the 12th april 1940 and im guessing he arrived back on the 1/6/1940. Thats all the information i have. I was told how he attempted to help save 3 foreign nationals against orders although 1 ended up passing on the beach or on the way. I was told he received a medal for this although I haven't found any evidence on this to back this up. It is a story passed down by his two brothes to my dad and uncle aunties who also served in ww2 after my grandad passed in 11955.any tips or information will be greatly appreciated. I have his service records and managed to find his maritime ship movements cards.
