Hi, I'd like to find out more info regarding "F" Troop of 2nd Sq, 4th Canadian Armoured Divisional Signals. Attached to the 23rd Field Regiment S.P. Especially about Lt. N.R. Ray, whom was appointed O.C. of "F" Tp when it was formed on April 20th, 1943. Ideally I'd like to find this soldiers full name, service number and service records. It so seems that the Canadian Willys MB Slat Grill jeep that I found in a barn here in Sweden was appointed to him while the unit was in England, Normandie, Belgium, Netherlands and Germany. I've attached the only two summaries specifically for "F" Tp that I've ordered from the Library and Archives in Canada as well as some photos of the jeep and its markings. If anyone is knowledgable in this type of research and would like to help, I wouldn't mind paying for that service. As a non-Canadian citizen, I'm not able to get the same access to service records etc. Pls feel free to comment or send me a PM or email at astrehl@me.com Thank you!
I’ll see what I can find Alexander. Officer’s during that time period were NOT assigned Service Numbers, this happened later in the war. But let me see what I have and I’ll post if up here.
Here is some information from LAC Files (Heritage Canadiana). And the link to the file so that you can go thru it yourself if you want to. Unfortunately their is NO search engine on the Heritage Canadiana files, so you have to search “manually” (page by page) War diaries : T-16433 - Héritage And here’s a few pages I found that was pertinent of Lt Ray….. First, from the WD of the 23rd SP Regiment, RCA, June 1943 Nominal Roll of Officers and Warrant Officers Another page from the WD of 23rd SP
I found this newspaper article, and this might be the same man……checking further CLIPPED FROM Calgary Herald Calgary, Alberta, Canada 20 May 1940, Mon • Page 6
Temujin Thank you so much! In my other thread Pronto91 posted this: "Lt N.R. Ray was OC "F" Tp only until 11 Dec 1943 at which time Lt H.A. Whincup took over. On 26 Oct 1944, Lt N.H. Scott took over from Whincup. Lt Scott was SoS to X-3 list (medical beyond unit lines) on 28 Dec 1944 and was replaced by Lt E.S. Steben on 12 Jan 1945. Lt Steben was still in command in May 1945 so that would appear to be the full list of incumbents up to the end of hostilities." Ideally, I'd like to find relatives of all three OC's and contact them to find out more information and possibly any existing photographs were the jeep might be included.
Amazing! Already found the son of Lt. Whincup and contacted him via Facebook. N. H. Scott will be tougher w/o knowing what his initials stand for.
It helps when you’ve been doing this a long time, and you have bookmarked hundreds of sites. I’m trying to find N.H. Scott full name (haven’t yet)……. Found more info, but not his full name yet
